The film tells the story of Elliot, a boy who befriends an extraterrestrial dubbed E.T., who is stranded on Earth. Along with his friends and family, Elliot must find a way to help E.T. return home while avoiding the government. During the film, Elliotās younger sister, Gertie, gifts E.T. with a flower pot of wilted geraniums, which the extraterrestrial brings back to life. These geraniums are actually a key part of the film and seem to be connected to E.T.ās health, and ultimately symbolise life and ressurrection.
In the emotional closing scene of the film, E.T. says his goodbyes to Elliot and his family. āIāll be right hereā, he tells Elliot in the iconic scene and gently places his lit-up finger on the boyās forehead. The two part ways, and the pot of fully-bloomed geraniums boards the craft home along with E.T. This design celebrates that scene. On the front is E.T. and the pot of geraniums, while the back features the lush forest his ship home lands in.
